During the 2020 Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting, which occurred January 12 – 16 in Washington, DC, NADO Associate Director Carrie Kissel provided a presentation in the workshop Rural Transportation for Everyone: Policy and Practice in 2020.  Kissel’s presentation, titled Planning with not for: Rural Transportation and Equity, covered demographic changes in rural America, foundational concepts in equity and justice work, and integrating consideration of equity into programs and processes for transportation and related organizations.

Other presenters in the workshop included Todd Litman, Victoria Transport Policy Institute; Jill Hough, North Dakota State University; Hally Turner, Minnesota Department of Transportation; and Jake Granholm, Minnesota Management and Budget; Jaime Sullivan, Western Transportation Institute; and Loren Smith, U.S. Department of Transportation.  Several facilitators guided small group discussion of how equity is addressed in a variety of transportation issues and modes.
