On September 3, the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) released its first National Freight Strategic Plan. The plan was developed through a multi-agency effort involving extensive consultation with freight stakeholders in both the public and private sectors. USDOT will use the plan to guide national freight policy, programs, initiatives, and investments; identify freight data and research needs; and provide a framework for increased cross-sector, multijurisdictional, and multimodal coordination. The plan identifies strategic objectives within three goal areas: safety, infrastructure, and innovation. The plan also documents the nation’s existing freight network and significant trends and challenges. Read the full document here (PDF).
