The National Center for Rural Road Safety and NLTAPA Safety Work Group are co-hosting an upcoming 90-minute webinar. Titled Addressing Behavioral Highway Safety Issues on Rural Roads: A Look at the New GHSA Report, it will be held on Tuesday, November 15th from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
The webinar will discuss the findings of a recent report: America’s Rural Roads: Beautiful and Deadly. Published by the Governors Highway Safety Association, it presents a stark image of rural road safety. With 85,002 deaths in crashes between 2016 and 2020, risk on rural roads exceeded urban roads in 2020 by 62%. The report discusses the risks unique to rural roadways, driver-specific causes of increased risk (lack of seatbelt use leading the pack), and a broad list of suggestions rural transportation practitioners can implement to increase safety.
