The University of Wyoming, part of the Mountain-Plains Consortium, has released the report Incorporating Tourism Data in Traffic Estimation on Wyoming Low-Volume Roads (PDF). Travel demand models usually are developed for urban regions. However, this report describes using tourism data in a model to estimate traffic volume on low-volume roads in Wyoming. The report explains which data were used and how to interpret the model output data and maps. This research might be useful to local, regional, and state transportation professionals who serve other rural areas with tourism economies.
