Rural transit systems play a significant role in enhancing mobility for rural communities across the country. These systems are run by myriad types of operators, from private businesses to local governments, and are shaped by each specific communities’ needs.
Federal programs from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and State programs can provide vital funding and technical assistance, from project development up through implementation. However, with grant funds come certain procurement requirements. These procurement requirements can vary based on whether funds are Federal or State as well as by the amount of funds needed.
To assist with this complicated process, the NADO Research Foundation created this high-level flow chart outlining the key steps in the procurement process as outlined in the National RTAP Procurement 101 tool. While there are many in-depth details and consistent documentation needed throughout the process, this resource serves as a starting point for each organization to properly follow the procurement process.
