Connected and Automated Vehicle Education from USDOT

In This Article:

The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Joint Program Office has developed resources on Connected and Automated Vehicle education (CAVe). The CAVe tools help stakeholders develop their ITS workforce.

One of these resources is called CAVe-in-a-box. It has transportation radios, networking equipment, traffic control devices, and software needed to deploy ITS in a classroom. The system design document provides setup information and helps to explain how ITS are designed.

The resources also include instructions for building your own CAVe-in-a-box toolkit and a training video series.

Other resources from the ITS Joint Program Office’s Professional Capacity Building Program include ITS Standards Training Modules, a regular webinar series, informational resources and peer exchanges, and more.

For case studies of rural and small metro ITS deployments, view the NADO Research Foundation’s research completed in 2020 (PDF). This work was supported by the ITS Joint Program Office. Any opinions, findings and conclusions, or recommendations expressed in this publication are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of U.S. DOT or the NADO Research Foundation.
