Each year, the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) and NADO Research Foundation recognize the work of regional development organizations, regional transportation planning organizations, and metropolitan planning organizations through its award programs. In 2015, 12 transportation projects from across the nation received a NADO Innovation Award, along with about 100 other award-winning projects in other topic areas related to regional planning and community and economic development. (In 2016, transportation projects will be recognized in a separate awards program again, the Excellence in Regional Transportation Award, as has occurred in prior years. The 2015 awards were conducted together.)
