Making Rural Roads Safe for All (FHWA Roadway Safety Webinar Series)

Rural roads are a key part of towns, villages, and Tribal reservations across the United States. However, rural roads may face transportation safety challenges. FHWA is hosting a webinar on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM ET and will focus on addressing road safety in rural communities. Please register here.

During this webinar, you will learn about strategies, tools, and resources to: 

1. Implement low-cost safety improvements on rural roads, 

2. Conduct a Road Safety Audit on rural roads,  

3. Develop State-local partnerships to accelerate project delivery to improve road safety, and

4. Identify available programs and resources to improve safety and transit services in rural communities.

This webinar includes presentations from Massachusetts DOT; the Buchanan County, Iowa Secondary Roads Department; the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center; and the National Rural Transit Assistance Program. Staff in State DOTs, regional agencies, and local agencies supporting rural communities will learn actionable strategies and tools as well as examples to improve road safety on rural roads.
