Pew Charitable Trusts Release Transportation Funding Challenges Analysis

In This Article:

The Pew Charitable Trusts’ State and Consumer Initiatives program has developed analysis and a series of graphics depicting Funding Challenges in Transportation Infrastructure. Gaps between transportation revenues and expenditures have presented problems for more than a decade, and the issue is expected to continue.  The Congressional Budget Office has recently projected that the Highway Trust Fund will be exhausted in 2015, while the U.S. Department of Transportation is anticipating a shortfall in the highway account before the end of Fiscal Year 2014.  In addition, state funding for roads and transit fell by one-fourth between 2003 and 2011.  The graphics accompanying the analysis depict transportation spending at federal, state and local levels of government.  Learn more here.
