Rural Roadway Departures Included in FHWA Every Day Counts

In This Article:

Every Day Counts is an initiative of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) focused on rapid deployment of a set of specific proven technology solutions.  The fifth round of innovations (known as EDC-5) includes Reducing Rural Roadway Departures as one of ten highlighted innovations.  States and other transportation leaders were invited to attend multi-state summits around the country in fall 2018 and will plan to deploy innovations in the future.  Including rural roadway departures increases the attention on rural safety issues nationally and presents opportunities for discussion among stakeholders and funders on ways to deploy this innovation.  EDC-5 also continues to highlight Safe Transportation for Every Pedestrian, which was also an innovation featured in the previous round and can also have an important impact on improving transportation safety.  For more information on the Every Day Counts initiative, click here.
