FHWA/FTA to Hold Webinar on Limited English Proficiency: What MPOs and RTPOs Need to Know

On October 14 from 1 – 3 p.m. ET, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration will hold the webinar Foundations of Limited English Proficiency: What MPOs and RTPOs Need to Know.  This webinar was organized at the request of several regions across the country, including RTPOs and their partner transit agencies.

Attendees will learn the following webinar objectives:

  • Identify roles and responsibilities for U.S. DOT and its modal agencies, State DOTs, as well as regional planning partners such as Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) and Regional Transportation Planning Organizations (RTPOs) serving nonmetropolitan areas;
  • Describe how MPOs and RTPOs can fulfill their responsibilities in conducting an LEP self-assessment and develop an LEP plan;
  • Identify the Title VI-related Limited English Proficiency obligations, definitions related to LEP, and elements of a language access program;
  • Elements of conducting an LEP self-assessment;
  • Suggestions for developing an LEP plan.
